# 17. Box plot

# Introduction

A box plot, also known as a whisker plot, is a standardized way of displaying the distribution of data based on a five-number summary: minimum, first quartile (Q1), median, third quartile (Q3), and maximum. It can also indicate which observations, if any, might be considered outliers. Box plots are useful for identifying the central tendency, variability, and skewness of a dataset, as well as for comparing distributions between different groups.
